California PPO

A California PPO (or preferred provider organization) is basically a grouping of doctors in private practices, specialists, labs, hospitals and healthcare facilities that make a deal by signing a contract with a collection of insurance companies to receive a prearranged rate for medical services given to its members. There are not a lot of restrictions put on a California PPO, however members tend to pay more than other forms of managed care insurance plans.

With regards to a California PPO, a patient has control over his or her health and medical needs and can go see any specialist he or she chooses who is a part of the California PPO. The patient does not require a referral from her primary care physician and can instead go on her own to a specialist of her choosing. A co-payment is a part of a California PPO and it is important to keep in mind that the insurance policy will only cover approximately 80 percent of the medical fees. What that means is that the insured member must pay for 20 percent of any medical expenses incurred and this includes trips to the emergency room and stays in the hospital. A California PPO is likely to include a deductible which must be paid before your insurance coverage will kick in on a yearly basis. A California PPO will give you more choices and more freedom than other types of insurance plans but you will find yourself filling out a number of insurance claim forms.

Be aware that a California PPO will hire doctors, nurses, specialists and other medical experts to take care of a heavy caseload of patients and to conduct diagnostic tests and make necessary decisions in regards to emergency room procedures and hospital stays.

A California PPO is an excellent choice for a person who has the money to put into the insurance plan. A California PPO is not the best choice however for those who are on a fixed income or those who have to live with a very strict budget. This healthcare insurance option offers a tremendous amount of choices with few restrictions.

A California PPO is a good choice for a person who has a number of different health concerns, as well as someone who needs to visit the doctor often and also needs prescriptions filled many times over. It is also good for those who require many treatments and/or tests for medical problems as well as a person who requires the services of a specialist or specialists on a regular basis. In the case of a California PPO, there is no long drawn out waiting period to see a specialist. Instead a patient can simply book an appointment and then go. Yes this insurance option will cost you more financially but you will be on the way to treatment and healing that much quicker.
