California Group Health Insurance- Is Fee-For-Service Or An HMO The Best Choice?

Many medium to large sized companies in California offer California group health insurance to their employees and this insurance allows for peace of mind among workers.. Sometimes it is not an easy decision to decide between traditional health coverage (known as fee-for-service) and a health maintenance organization (HMO). Let’s take a brief look at the advantages of both.

Fee-for-service coverage through California group health insurance is the best option for you if you value the freedom to make your own choices regarding doctors and hospitals even if you have to pay a little more money. If this is your number one priority then take the traditional route to health insurance. If you do a lot of traveling for either business or pleasure and/or if you have dependant children that do not reside with you but may have the need to visit doctors outside of their home state or yours then the fee-for-service California group health insurance is best for you. If you do not mind the hassle of filling out countless medical forms and if you do not mind keeping all of your receipts and then submitting them yourself to the insurance company then fee-for-service is for you.

Fee-for-service will require you to pay a monthly premium but you will also have to pay for routine and preventative medical treatment such as checkups at the doctor’s office, regular doctors visits and needles. However when you wish for any of these services you will be able to book an appointment for them. Fee-for-service means that you can get a referral from your primary care doctor to see a specialist but you do not absolutely have to.

As a form of California group health insurance, a health maintenance organization (HMO) has other types of advantages. If cheaper costs are more of a priority to you and you do not mind being limited in your choice of health services then choose an HMO for your health coverage. If travel is not a big part of your life and most of your medical needs and those of your family can be taken care of in the area where you live then an HMO is right for you. If you want health coverage with a minimum of paperwork and little worry about saving receipts then an HMO can do that for you. If it is important to you that your health plan includes both routine as well as preventative care and you do not mind dealing with waiting for an appointment then you should choose an HMO. If you do not mind requiring referrals to specialists through your primary care physician then you might do well to consider California group health insurance by way of a health maintenance organization.
