Benefits Of Choosing The PPO Saver |
It’s often difficult to know which health care plan to choose with so many different choices. Blue Cross of Ca, for example, has a number of both PPO and HMO plans, some with similar coverage, so the subscriber has to read all of the information and make an informed decision about what is right for his individual situation. For those who are looking for a basic plan and don’t mind a high deductible, the PPO Saver is the plan for you. With a $500 deductible for emergencies and $5,000 for other covered expenses, the plan meets the needs of those who need a plan with a low monthly premium and who don’t need all of the benefits of a standard PPO or HMO plan. The combination of the deductibles comes together to form one required deductible of $5,000 per member with two members required to meet the maximum.
The PPO Saver through Blue Cross of California is an inexpensive plan that is good for those who don’t plan to have children and are finished having children since there is no maternity benefit with this plan. The prescription plan is the same as with the other HMOs and PPOs with one exception: generic medications are $10, brand name medications are $30, but instead of $250 like the other plan, the deductible for brand name drugs on this plan is $500 per member, but it still has a maximum deductible of $500 for two members in order to satisfy the requirement.
Preventive care is available at Healthy Check Centers for a $25 copay for basic care and $75 copay for premium care. Children are allowed four doctor visits per year and adults two visits per year for a copay of $30. Inpatient hospital care is 20% of the negotiated fee like the other plans. Trips to the emergency room are 20% of the negotiated fee after a $500 deductible, so if you have children or are prone to accidents or illnesses not requiring hospitalization, you may want to consider one of the plans that have a lower deductible amount for the emergency room. Of course, it can add up even on the other plans if you make more than five visits per year.
The PPO Saver Plan is definitely a basic plan, but it is well-designed for the subscriber who doesn’t have a great deal of medical expenses and has no need for maternity benefits. It is also a great plan for those who are looking for a good prescription plan because at $10 for generic copays, this plan fits in the middle of the majority of plans that cover prescriptions. Of course, if you are the type of person who feels you must have brand name medications, you will pay $30 after you meet the deductible. Using the Healthy Check centers for preventive care will help you avoid trips to the doctor, an important feature since those are limited on this plan. However, it allows you to use only those services that you need.
